Latin rite diocese in the southern Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarpfalz district of Saarland, one of Germany's historic sees. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bamberg. Its cathedral is the Romanesque Imperial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and St Stephen in Speyer, begun in 1030.

History

Located in the south of the Rhineland-Palatinate and taking in the Saarpfalz district in the east of the Saarland, the Diocese of Speyer (Latin: Dioecesis Spirensis) is a Latin see of the Catholic Church in Germany, with the bishop seated in the Palatinate city of Speyer. Karl-Heinz Wiesemann is the current bishop. As of 31 December 2022, Catholics made up 32.3% of the diocese's population.
