History

First erected on 12 April 1837 as the Vicariate Apostolic of British Guiana, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Georgetown (Latin: Dioecesis Georgiopolitana) was raised to diocesan rank on 29 February 1956 and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain. Its cathedral, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, stands in Georgetown, Guyana.
