Latin-rite diocese covering all of Suriname, with origins as an apostolic prefecture in 1817 and elevated from apostolic vicariate to diocese on 7 May 1958. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, with its seat at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul in Paramaribo.

History
First erected on 22 November 1817 as the Prefecture Apostolic of Dutch Guyana-Suriname, this see (Latin: Dioecesis Paramariboënsis; Dutch: Bisdom Paramaribo) was raised to an apostolic vicariate on 12 September 1842 and became the Diocese of Paramaribo on 7 May 1958. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain.
