The Diocese of Cayenne is a Latin rite see erected in 1956 covering the entirety of French Guiana, an area of some 84,000 km2 with 29 parishes. Its seat is the Cathedrale Saint-Sauveur in Cayenne. Bishop Alain Ransay, a native of Martinique, was appointed Bishop of Cayenne in 2021.

History

First erected in 1651 as the Prefecture Apostolic of French Guiana-Cayenne, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cayenne (Latin: Dioecesis Caiennensis; French: Diocèse de Cayenne) is today a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Fort-de-France. The jurisdiction was elevated to the Vicariate Apostolic of French Guiana-Cayenne on 10 January 1933 and became the Diocese of Cayenne on 29 February 1956. The bishop's seat is Cayenne Cathedral.
