Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese in northern Hungary, founded around 1000 as the Diocese of Eger by King St. Stephen I and elevated to archdiocese on 9 August 1804. Its seat is the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, St. Michael and the Immaculate Conception in Eger. Its suffragans are Debrecen-Nyiregyhaza and Vac.

History
The city of Eger in Northern Hungary serves as the seat of an archdiocese of the Latin Church, known in Latin as the Archidioecesis Agriensis. From this centre the Archdiocese of Eger carries out its work within the Catholic Church.
