The Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest is the primatial metropolitan see of Hungary, founded in 1001 by King Stephen I and renamed Esztergom-Budapest in 1993. Its suffragans are the dioceses of Győr and Székesfehérvár. Cardinal Péter Erdő has been archbishop since 2002.

History

Hungary's primatial seat belongs to this Latin Church archdiocese, known in Latin as the Archidioecesis Strigoniensis-Budapestinensis and in Hungarian as the Esztergom-Budapesti főegyházmegye. It serves as the metropolitan see of one of the four Latin Church ecclesiastical provinces into which Hungary is divided.
