The cathedral
Primatial Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Adalbert, Esztergom stands in Esztergom–Budapest, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.
Its co-cathedral is St. Stephen's Basilica, Budapest.
On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.
History
Hungary's primatial seat belongs to this Latin Church archdiocese, known in Latin as the Archidioecesis Strigoniensis-Budapestinensis and in Hungarian as the Esztergom-Budapesti főegyházmegye. It serves as the metropolitan see of one of the four Latin Church ecclesiastical provinces into which Hungary is divided.
