• Director of Vocations reaches out to parishes

  Fr. Marius O'Reilly has begun visiting parishes across the Diocese of Cork and Ross to preach about diocesan priesthood. The recently appointed Director of Vocations is meeting with local communities to encourage prayer for those considering the priesthood and to support people discerning a vocation. Bishop Fintan Gavin appointed Fr. Marius as Director of Vocations during the summer, with Canon Robert Brophy serving as Assistant Director. The roles involve promoting vocations and engaging with individuals in their formation years. During a recent Mass in Clonakilty, Fr. Marius shared his personal journey from running a business to his previous service as a chaplain at UCC, a chaplain at Mercy University Hospital, and a curate in the Cathedral Family of Parishes.

• Lourdes Day 5: Bringing Lourdes Home

  Pilgrims from the Diocese of Cork and Ross began their journey home from Lourdes on September 24, 2026, following five days of prayer and Mass celebrations at the Grotto. Bishop Fintan told the group that they should return home changed by their experiences. He suggested that the pilgrimage should lead them to be more attentive to those in need, more patient, and more willing to forgive. He also encouraged pilgrims to be more conscious of lonely or struggling individuals and to be more active in their parishes, schools, and workplaces. According to the bishop, this mission starts in daily life among friends, families, and colleagues.

• Lourdes Day 4: Taking the Spirit of Lourdes Home

  Bishop Fintan led a Mass at the Grotto during the fourth day of the Diocese of Cork and Ross pilgrimage to Lourdes. The celebration included prayers from families, friends, parishes, and Families of Parishes from across the diocese. During his homily, Bishop Fintan told pilgrims to reflect on what they would carry back to Cork and Ross. He said the group is being sent home with the faith and simplicity of St. Bernadette, the tenderness of Mary, the friendships shared during the trip, and a renewed awareness of the presence and love of Jesus Christ.

• Lourdes Day 3: A Journey of Faith, Healing and Hope

  Pilgrims in Lourdes participated in an indoor Stations of the Cross and a walking tour to mark the third day of their visit. The Stations of the Cross was held indoors due to restrictions ahead of the scheduled visit from Pope Leo XIV. During the service, student and young adult helpers carried each station to the Pilgrim Cross, which was blessed by Archdeacon Kerry Murphy O’Connor in 2014. Father Charlie Kiely led a walking tour following the footsteps of St. Bernadette to teach pilgrims about her life and her role in sharing the message of Our Lady. The day also included Mass with the Anointing of the Sick.

• Diocese of Cork and Ross leads Candlelight Rosary Procession

  The Diocese of Cork and Ross led a candlelight rosary procession during the second day of its pilgrimage to Lourdes. Pilgrims from the diocese participated in the International Mass at the St. Pius X Underground Basilica earlier in the day. The diocese also attended a penitential service at Côté Carmel to allow for personal reflection and reconciliation.
