History
Created on 24 June 2005 as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gulbarga in India counted as the 150th diocese of the country and the 120th of Latin Rite. Rev. Robert Miranda is its first bishop, and the parish church Mother Mary of Divine Grace in Gulbarga will be the cathedral for the diocese. Its 38,752 km² of Karnataka state were drawn from territory previously belonging to the Archdiocese of Hyderabad and the dioceses of Bellary and Belgaum. Of a total population of 7,012,492, some 6,425 are Catholic, organized into 16 parishes.
