The Diocese of Laghouat is a Latin rite see covering the Saharan inland of Algeria, established in 1901 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Ghardaïa and erected as a diocese in 1955. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Algiers, its bishop's seat is the Pro-Cathedral of Ghardaïa, and it has been led by Bishop Diego Sarrió Cucarella since his appointment in January 2025.

Pope Leo XIV visits Algeria
Pope Leo XIV completed a pastoral visit to Algeria, an event Bishop Diego Sarrió Cucarella of the Diocese of Laghouat-Ghardaïa says has revived hope for the local Church. The bishop noted that the house of the Little Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Charles de Foucauld in Tamanrasset is ready for religious or laywomen to inhabit, but it currently houses only one religious sister. Bishop Sarrió Cucarella stated that while women have shown interest in living there, they have been unable to obtain the necessary visas due to bureaucratic problems.
