History
West Texas received its own Roman Catholic see when the Diocese of Lubbock (Latin: Dioecesis Lubbokensis) was erected in 1983 as a suffragan of the metropolitan Archdiocese of San Antonio. Christ the King Cathedral in Lubbock is the mother church, and Robert Coerver is the bishop.
