Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese covering the island of Malta, by tradition founded by Saint Paul the Apostle around AD 60 and one of the oldest sees in the world; it was elevated to an archdiocese on 1 January 1944. Its metropolitan cathedral is St. Paul's Cathedral in Mdina, with St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, and its suffragan is the Diocese of Gozo.

    Pope Leo XIV urged pilgrims at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes to act as missionaries of hope during a Mass on Sunday, September 27. Addressing faithful from France and around the world, the pope called for conversion and penance for a world that is going wrong. During his homily, the pope described the pilgrimage as an opportunity to rekindle faith in homes and parishes. He told the faithful to take the consolation found at the sanctuary back to their neighbors, families, and the people of France. He noted that the call to repentance is a central part of the message the Virgin Mary entrusted to Saint Bernadette.
