The Archdiocese of Naples is the metropolitan see of the Latin Catholic Church in Campania, Italy, with roots in the first century and metropolitan status since the tenth century. Its cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption and its patron is Saint Januarius (San Gennaro).

History
A Christian community took root at Naples in the 1st century AD, and in the 10th century the diocese there was raised to an archdiocese. Today the Archdiocese of Naples (Italian: Arcidiocesi di Napoli; Neapolitan: Arcidiocesi 'e Napule); Latin: Archidioecesis Neapolitana) is a Latin archdiocese of the Catholic Church in southern Italy, its see in Naples. Two of its archbishops, Paul IV and Innocent XII, were elected pope, and in 2004 it counted c. 1,600,000 baptized people.

Diocese of Napoli promotes evening of prayer and sharing
The Sezione Formazione Permanente del Servizio Presbiteri of the Diocese of Napoli will host an evening of prayer, meditation by the bishop, and sharing on Wednesday, September 30. The event takes place at the Seminario Maggiore “A. Ascalesi” from 20.00 to 22.00, followed by a cena buffet.

Cardinal Domenico Battaglia asks San Gennaro for a year without war
Cardinal Domenico Battaglia asked Saint Gennaro for a year without war during the solemnity of the saint's feast. Addressing the faithful in the Archdiocese of Napoli, the archbishop requested that when the community returns next year, the only blood discussed should be that of the saint. Battaglia stated he does not want to speak of blood resembling that of killed children or the victims in Palestine and Ukraine. He expressed exhaustion with a humanity that creates victims and then builds monuments to mourn them, noting he wants to stop naming destroyed cities and grieving mothers because he hopes there will no longer be a need to do so.
