History

Erected in 1961 from the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, the Diocese of Laoag (Latin: Dioecesis Laoagensis) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. The see stood vacant from June 15, 2011, until October 11, 2012. The following day, October 12, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI named Most Rev. Renato P. Mayugba, until then Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, as the diocese's sixth bishop.
