Latin-rite diocese in southeastern Poland, erected 25 March 1992 by Pope John Paul II (apostolic constitution Totus tuus Poloniae populus) from territory of the Dioceses of Przemysl and Tarnow. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Przemysl. Its mother church is the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Rzeszow.

History

Pope John Paul II erected the Diocese of Rzeszów (Latin: Dioecesis Rzeszoviensis) on 25 March 1992 through the apostolic constitution Totus tuus Poloniae populus, carving it from territories of the Diocese of Przemyśl and the Diocese of Tarnów. This Latin Church diocese is seated in the city of Rzeszów, within the ecclesiastical province of Przemyśl in Poland.

    Bishop Jan Wątroba consecrated the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church in Zarębki on September 27, 2026. The ceremony, which included the consecration of the church and the altar, coincided with the 20th anniversary of the parish. During the liturgy, parish priest Marek Prajsnar welcomed the congregation after Bishop Wątroba led the faithful into the building. The service included a presentation on the history of the parish and the construction of the church. In his homily, Bishop Wątroba described the consecration as a unique event in the history of any church. He noted that the building resulted from the faith, sacrifices, and efforts of local residents who wanted a dedicated place for prayer and a separate parish. The bishop also thanked the first parish priest, Marek, for his role in uniting the community during the parish's development.

    Bishop Jan Wątroba consecrated the Church of Divine Mercy in Domatkowo on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The ceremony coincided with the 40th anniversary of the parish. The liturgy began outside the main entrance with the rites of consecrating the church and the altar. Parish priest Bogdan Janik welcomed the congregation and introduced the celebration. Six priests participated in the liturgy, including Kazimierz Franczak, the dean of the Kolbuszowa-Zachód deanery. During the service, the congregation heard the history of the parish and the construction of the church. In his homily, Bishop Wątroba expressed gratitude to previous generations for their labor, time, and resources used to build the church. He described the consecration as a unique event for the community and encouraged the faithful to treat the day as a spiritual milestone for the years ahead.
