Latin rite diocese in eastern Thailand, split from the Apostolic Vicariate of Bangkok in 1944 and elevated to a diocese in 1965. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bangkok, its seat is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi, the largest Catholic church in Thailand.

History

Eastern central Thailand falls under the Diocese of Chanthaburi (Dioecesis Chanthaburiensis, Thai: สังฆมณฑลจันทบุรี), a Latin Catholic jurisdiction suffragan to the archdiocese of Bangkok. Its 34,000 km2 take in the provinces of Chanthaburi, Chonburi, Prachinburi, Rayong, Sa Kaeo and Trat, together with the parts of Chachoengsao east of the Bang Pa Kong River and Nakhon Nayok apart from the district Ban Na. Of the 4.4 million citizens, 38,918 were Catholics as of 2009, organized into 42 parishes served by 112 priests in all.
