History

Northern Thailand's Diocese of Chiang Mai (Dioecesis Chiangmaiensis, Thai: สังฆมณฑลเชียงใหม่) is a Latin Catholic suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bangkok, with Bishop Francis Xavier Vira Arpondratana appointed as its leader. Four northern provinces make up its territory: Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, and Lampang (except Ngao District), a land area of 48,013 square kilometers holding a total population of 5,709,443.
