8th Centenary of the Transitus of St Francis of Assisi, at Old Goa

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

The St. Anthony Capuchin Province of Goa organized a celebration at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Old Goa on October 2, 2026, to mark the 8th centenary of the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi. The event commemorated the saint's passing into eternal life.

Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão presided over the Eucharistic Celebration. During the liturgy, Rico preached a homily on the life and spirituality of St. Francis, focusing on the saint's commitment to poverty, humility, and love for creation. The Franciscan Youth, known as YouFra, led the Transitus prayer to begin the commemoration.

The event included participation from Franciscan brothers, sisters, priests, and members of the Order. Coordination for the liturgy and arrangements was provided by the parish priest of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fr. Rosario Olivera, and ASI officers at Old Goa.
