Pope Leo XIV to send message to Assisi peace meeting

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV will send a message of peace to an interreligious prayer meeting in Assisi on Tuesday instead of attending in person. The Holy See Press Office stated the pope is following medical advice after undergoing surgery earlier this month.

The prayer meeting, held from October 25 to 27, brings religious leaders to the Lower Basilica of Saint Francis to pray for peace. The gathering marks 40 years since Pope John Paul II invited world religious leaders to Assisi for a Day of Prayer for Peace. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople and other religious leaders will participate in the event.
