Peruvian artist Walt Wizard has created a hyperrealistic statue of Pope Leo XIV

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

The statue, which features the Pope's facial features, smile, and papal clothing, is located in central Lima. Wizard produced the figure as part of a series titled Peru: Rostros de Fe y Valentía. He described the work as the first of its kind created using this specific hyperrealistic technique.

The project began after Wizard met the Pope in St. Peter's Square last November. During that meeting, Wizard presented a hyperrealistic sculpture of Jesus Christ to the Pontiff. The artist used the opportunity to observe the Pope's physical appearance to inform the new sculpture.

Wizard's studio in the Santiago de Surco district contains other realistic figures, including Saint Rose of Lima, Jesus Christ, and the naval hero Miguel Grau.
