Pope Leo XIV's apostolic visit to France reflected the country's spiritual condition

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

In a homily for Sunday Mass on October 25, 2026, at Saint-Étienne Church in Chinon, a preacher noted that the recent apostolic journey of Pope Leo XIV revealed an authentic aspect of the spiritual condition in France. The speaker referenced the large crowds that gathered at the Place de la Concorde and on the Champs-Élysées on September 26 to observe the Pope.

The homily contrasted the unity seen during the papal visit with recent social unrest and violence from groups that had resurfaced after appearing calm two years ago. The speaker stated that the Pope's presence demonstrated Catholic communion as a universal union where individuals are strengthened by their freedom.
