Pope Leo XIV says ecological challenge of our time is more urgent than ever

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV said the ecological challenges facing the world are more urgent than ever during a meeting with representatives from the Hera Group, an Italian multi-utility company that manages environmental services at the Vatican.

The Pope urged the creation of a culture of care to counter what he described as a throwaway culture. He defined this trend as a social mindset that prioritizes short-term convenience, speed, and replacing old items with new ones while setting aside values such as sustainability, repair, and long-term use.
