Pope Leo XIV to send message to interreligious prayer meeting in Assisi
Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read
Pope Leo XIV will send a message of peace to an interreligious prayer meeting in Assisi on Tuesday instead of attending in person. The Holy See Press Office stated the pope will not participate in the gathering on the advice of doctors following his surgery earlier this month.
The meeting, held from October 25 to 27, includes religious leaders praying for peace in the Lower Basilica. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople will deliver remarks alongside other world religious leaders. This gathering marks 40 years since Pope John Paul II invited religious leaders to the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi for a Day of Prayer for Peace.
