Latin rite archdiocese in Campania, Italy, raised to metropolitan rank in 987 by Pope John XV and given its current name in 1986 when the diocese of Cava e Sarno was merged in. It is now a non-metropolitan archdiocese suffragan to Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, with the relics of Saint Andrew housed in Amalfi Cathedral.

History

With its episcopal see at Amalfi, not far from Naples, this Latin Church archdiocese (Latin: Archidioecesis Amalphitana-Cavensis) bore the name Archdiocese of Amalfi until September 30, 1986, when parts of the Diocese of Cava e Sarno were merged into it. Once exempt and directly dependent on the Holy See, it is now a suffragan of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno. Orazio Soricelli is the current bishop. In 2015 the diocese of Amalfi had one priest for every 1,199 Catholics.
