Latin Church diocese, also known as the Diocese of Handan, seated in Hebei, China, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Beijing. Established on May 24, 1929 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Yongnian from the Apostolic Vicariate of Xianxian, promoted to apostolic vicariate in 1933 and to diocese on April 11, 1946. Bishop Joseph Sun Jigen was appointed Bishop of Yongnian on October 13, 2021; the diocese is among the fastest growing in mainland China.

History

Yongnian, also called Weixian (Latin: Iomnienin(us), Chinese: 永年, 魏縣), is a Latin Church diocese seated in the city of Yongnian, China, standing as a suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Beijing. It also carries the name Diocese of Handan/Yongnian (Chinese: 邯郸/永年教区).
