History

The northeastern quarter of the state of Iowa in the United States belongs to the Archdiocese of Dubuque (Latin: Archidiœcesis Dubuquensis), a Catholic see erected as a diocese in 1837 and raised to an archdiocese in 1893. As a metropolitan archdiocese it presides over three suffragan dioceses.
