Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese in western Hungary, founded as the Diocese of Veszprem in 1009 (one of Hungary's oldest sees) and elevated to archdiocese on 31 May 1993. Its seat is St. Michael's Cathedral in Veszprem. Its suffragans are the Dioceses of Szombathely and Kaposvar.

History

King Stephen I of Hungary is believed to have founded this see in 1009 AD as the Diocese of Veszprém, at first suffragan to the Archdiocese of Esztergom. Elevated to an archdiocese in 1993, the Archdiocese of Veszprém (Hungarian: Veszprémi Főegyházmegye, Latin: Archidioecesis Veszprimiensis) is a Latin Church archdiocese in Hungary and now serves as metropolitan for the Diocese of Kaposvár and the Diocese of Szombathely.
