Erected as the Vicariate Apostolic of New Caledonia in 1847 and elevated to metropolitan archdiocese on 21 June 1966, with the Dioceses of Wallis et Futuna and Port-Vila as suffragans. Its seat is St. Joseph Cathedral, Noumea.

History
Established in 1966, the Archdiocese of Nouméa (Latin: Archidioecesis Numeanus; French: Archidiocèse de Nouméa) is the metropolitan see of New Caledonia, with responsibility for the suffragan dioceses of Port-Vila and Wallis et Futuna.
