In the San Francisco Bay Area of California, the Diocese of Oakland (Latin: Diœcesis Quercopolitana) is a diocese of the Catholic Church in the United States, a suffragan in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archbishop of San Francisco. The Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland is its mother church.

• Reliance on God: a practical and prayerful strategy for remarkable growth

  Saint Clement Catholic School in Hayward has seen its enrollment grow by 27 percent over the last six years, rising from 220 students in 2020 to 280 students. Principal Veronica Hernandez attributes this growth to a reliance on prayer rather than specific academic platforms or organized faith programs. Hernandez, a 22-year veteran of Catholic education, said prayer must be a first resort rather than a last resort. She noted that her transition into her first principal role occurred just 72 hours after applying during the COVID-19 pandemic. The school recently earned a full six-year accreditation from the Western Catholic Educational Association. Under Hernandez's leadership, the school has also expanded its academic programs, improved campus safety, invested in facilities, and strengthened its Catholic identity.

• Terri Porter receives St. Leo Legacy of Opportunity Award

  Terri Porter, the director of OMA and FACE, received the St. Leo Legacy of Opportunity Award from the Saint Leo the Great School graduating class of 2026 and their families. The Diocese of Oakland stated that Porter has spent seven years expanding student opportunities through FACE tuition assistance. This program has helped hundreds of families access Catholic education. The diocese noted that this year's valedictorian at Saint Leo the Great School is a recipient of a FACE scholarship.

• Archbishop Fulton Sheen to be beatified on Thursday, Sept. 24

  Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified on Thursday, Sept. 24, during a Mass at noon PDT inside the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis. The beatification honors the archbishop for using radio and television to evangelize. Sheen hosted the program Life Is Worth Living on television and earned three Emmy awards, reaching nightly audiences of up to 30 million people. He also broadcast on the radio.

• Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood hosts 9th Marian Conference

  Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood will host its ninth Marian Conference on Oct. 9 and 10. The event, themed “With Mary, we celebrate life,” features a 26-hour schedule of prayer and sacraments. Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, will celebrate Mass on Friday night to open the conference. Father Shenan Boquet, a bioethicist and president of Human Life International from the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, will deliver the primary talk on Friday evening. The weekend schedule includes three Masses, featuring a Saturday evening Mass of Anticipation with Father Quang Dong and Father Erick Villa, followed by a candlelit Marian procession. Other activities include two opportunities for confession, overnight Adoration, and a Saturday morning Mass that includes the Anointing of the Sick. Attendees can also enroll in the Brown Scapular during a liturgical ceremony.
