The Archdiocese of Omaha originated as the Apostolic Vicariate of Nebraska (1857), became a diocese in 1885, and was elevated to an archdiocese in 1945. It is the metropolitan see for northeastern Nebraska with suffragans Grand Island and Lincoln, led by Archbishop Michael G. McGovern since 2025.

History

Northeastern Nebraska in the United States is served by the Archdiocese of Omaha (Latin: Archidioecesis Metropolitae Omahensis), a diocese of the Catholic Church with St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha as its mother church. As of 2025, Michael George McGovern is the archbishop.
