The cathedral
Basilica Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta stands in Parma–Fontevivo, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

History
Since 1892 this Latin Catholic see has properly borne the name Diocese of Parma-Fontevivo, though it is commonly the Diocese of Parma (Latin: Dioecesis Parmensis). The bishop's seat is Parma Cathedral, and the diocese is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola. Its provincial affiliation has shifted over time: Parma originally belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Milan before becoming a suffragan of the Archbishop of Ravenna.
