The Latin rite Diocese of Bac Ninh in northern Vietnam traces to the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Tonkin erected in 1883, renamed Bac Ninh in 1924, and elevated to a diocese on 24 November 1960. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Hanoi, its cathedral is the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral in Bac Ninh.

History

A Latin Catholic see of Vietnam, the diocese of Bac Ninh (Latin: Dioecesis Bacninhensis) took its present form by declaration on November 24, 1960. Covering 12,227 km2 as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Hanoi, it counted by 2004 about 123,090 believers (1.8% of the population), 23 priests, and 47 parishes. Queen of the Rosary Cathedral in Bac Ninh serves as the cathedral of the diocese.

    Hoa Loan Parish held a Mass on September 24, 2026, to pray for the late Bishop Giuse Maria Nguyễn Quang Tuyến and the clergy who have served the Bac Ninh Diocese. The liturgy, held at Huong Nghia Chapel, marked 20 years since the bishop's death. Parish priest Giuse Nguyễn Văn Trường presided over the Mass, joined by assistant priest Gioan Baotixita Nguyễn Văn Phòng. During the service, Father Nguyễn Văn Phòng spoke about the bishop's leadership during difficult times and his habit of visiting various pastoral communities and parishioners. He noted that the late bishop encouraged people to live in love and unity, following his episcopal motto that all people should be one. The community used the Mass to express gratitude to the late bishop, priests, and religious workers for their service to the diocese.

  • Diocese of Bac Ninh holds 20th death anniversary Mass for Bishop Giuse Maria Nguyễn Quang Tuyến

    The Bac Ninh Parish held a Mass at the Bac Ninh Cathedral on Thursday evening, September 24, 2026, to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of the late Bishop Giuse Maria Nguyễn Quang Tuyến. The liturgy also served to remember and pray for previous leaders who served the Diocese of Bac Ninh. Father Phêrô Nguyễn Công Văn presided over the Mass, joined by Father Phanxicô Xaviê Bùi Quang Thuận and other priests. Deacons, religious brothers and sisters, and many parishioners attended the service. During the Mass, Father Phêrô invited the community to reflect on the difficult pastoral journey of Bishop Giuse Maria and other predecessors in the Bac Ninh region. Father Giuse Nguyễn Văn Hoạch shared a reflection using the parable of the sower to describe the late bishop's ministry, noting his efforts to spread faith in the mission fields and outlying areas of the diocese.

The diocesan music committee provided the entrance hymn, the Mass of Quan ho, the responsorial psalm and Alleluia, and the closing hymn, Our Lady of the Rosary.

  • Diocese of Bac Ninh holds priestly training course

    Young priests serving in the Diocese of Bac Ninh attended a training course on the theme of participating and sharing responsibility in the Church. The retreat took place from September 21 to 22, 2026, at Tam Dao Parish in the Vinh Phuc deanery. The program helped priests study the spirituality of walking together and applying it to their ministry through fraternity and communion. During the first afternoon, instructor Daminh Nguyen Xuan Truong taught the priests how to participate in Church life and connect this spirituality to modern pastoral work. The priests also practiced a method of dialogue in the Holy Spirit to listen and discern together. On the morning of September 22, the priests discussed their pastoral experiences, including the challenges and concerns they face in their parishes. The training concluded with a thanksgiving Mass at Tam Dao Parish. The event included participation from dean Phero Verona Chu Quang Hoa, parish priest Phanxicô Xaviê Ngô Quang Khải, who oversees training for the diocese's young priests, and Daminh Nguyen Xuan Truong.
