Diocese of Salamanca marks 10 years since diocesan assembly

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

The Diocese of Salamanca marks 10 years since the conclusion of its diocesan assembly, a process that ran from 2014 to 2016. The assembly concluded on October 8, 2016, at the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia, where then-bishop Carlos López Hernández presided over a celebration marking both the end of the assembly and the closing of the Jubilee of Mercy.

The two-year process involved approximately 1,700 priests, religious members, and laypeople who participated in prayer and shared work to propose ways to renew the life and mission of the diocese. The assembly began on September 8, 2014, at the Nueva Cathedral as a response to Pope Francis's apostolic exhortation, Evangelii gaudium, which called for a new era of evangelization.

The diocese notes that many of the topics raised during the assembly continue to influence its current synodal path.
