The Piarist Order church in Timișoara celebrated its feast day on Monday, September 14, honoring the Szent Kereszt felmagasztalása. Father Zoltán Kocsik, the rector, invited the community to the occasion.

During the celebratory Mass, retired canon Péter Szabó spoke about the message of the cross, the crosses carried in human life, and the mystery of God's redeeming love.

The church was built in the early 20th century based on plans by architect László Székely and was consecrated on January 22, 1912, by Bishop Julius Glattfelder of Cenad. The main altar features a 220 cm tall artistic representation of the Kálvária. This wooden composition, which has a marble appearance, depicts the Mântuitor răstignit flanked by the Sfânta Fecioară and Saint Ioan. The sculpture group was assembled in late 1911 by workers from the Mayer’sche Hofkunstanstalt in Munich under the direction of Paul Müller.

Pr. Edmund Dujardi speaks at Intereparhial Meeting of Youth

Priest Edmund Dujardi gave a catechesis titled Change the World Starting with Your Heart during the Intereparchial Youth Meeting for the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia and Făgăraș and the Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla.

During his talk, Dujardi challenged young people to consider what it means to change the world and how to define true goodness. He used a story about finding a crow chick that did not need medical treatment but simply needed to learn how to fly to illustrate that personal transformation is necessary before one can change the world.

Dujardi noted that while people often seek the good, individual or group perspectives can lead to conflict or violence when one side tries to impose its views on others. He stated that intention alone is not enough to do good and proposed God as the objective standard for true transformation.

Pope Leo XIV told believers that forgiveness is the best rule for living together during the Angelus on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026.

Pope Leo XIV told believers that forgiveness is the best rule for living together during the Angelus on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026. Speaking from the window of his apostolic palace, the pope addressed the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time, using the Gospel of Matthew to explain that forgiveness must go beyond all limits.

The pope noted that Jesus demonstrated this value on the cross by praying for those who persecuted him. He explained that while Peter asked if forgiving a brother was sufficient, Jesus instructed followers to forgive without limit. Pope Leo XIV said that without forgiveness, conflict, resentment, and revenge would inevitably destroy human relationships, families, and cause wars. He described forgiveness as a force that brings freedom and light even during times of material or spiritual poverty.

Before the prayer, the pope also remembered the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. He asked for prayers for those who lost their lives and those still suffering from the wounds of that day. He also called for peace in areas where conflict and violence cause suffering.

Parish in Otelec celebrates feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

    Diocese of Timişoara

The Roman Catholic parish community in Otelec celebrated its church feast day on Monday, September 14, honoring the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Father Péter Szabó, a retired canon, celebrated the Holy Liturgy at 11:00 a.m.

Priests József Heinrich, the local parish priest, Lajos Máthé, the parish priest of Dumbrăvița, and Daniel Pozsonyi, the parish priest of Jimbolia and Cărpiniș, concelebrated the Mass. The event drew many believers from neighboring villages, parish branches, Timișoara, and Dumbrăvița. Silvia Fechete, the mayor of Otelec, also attended the liturgy, which included music from the church choir.

During the service, Father Lajos Máthé spoke about the need for people to grow their hearts rather than trying to make the cross smaller. Father József Heinrich noted that the community has maintained the tradition of celebrating the feast on September 14, even when it falls on a weekday. He recalled that during the communist dictatorship in the early 1980s, authorities attempted to force the parish to move the celebration to a Sunday to avoid workdays, but the community and the priest resisted the change.
