History

With its episcopal see at Périgueux, in the département of Dordogne within the région of Aquitaine, the Diocese of Périgueux and Sarlat (Latin: Dioecesis Petrocoricensis et Sarlatensis; French: Diocèse de Périgueux et Sarlat) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory of the Catholic Church in France. It belongs as a suffragan to the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Bordeaux. Philippe Mousset, appointed in 2014, is the current bishop.

  • Diocese of Périgueux reports 52 adult baptisms

    The Diocese of Périgueux accompanied 52 adult baptisms and 46 confirmations in 2026, according to Gaëlle Romieu, the diocesan head of catechesis. Romieu noted that requests for adult baptisms have increased steadily following the post-Covid period. Most adults entering the faith are between 18 and 40 years old, with an even distribution between men and women. Romieu stated that the diocese is currently considering how to better support new members after their baptism to ensure they do not feel unsupported once their initial training ends. To celebrate these new members, the diocese will hold a festival for the newly baptized at the cathedral on April 3, 2027.
