The Diocese of Tyler is a Latin Church diocese in northeastern Texas, erected in 1987 and suffragan to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Gregory W. Kelly, previously an auxiliary bishop of Dallas, was named its fifth bishop in December 2024 and installed in February 2025.

History

Eastern Texas in the United States forms the Diocese of Tyler (Latin: Dioecesis Tylerensis), a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church. Tyler is the episcopal see, and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception there serves as the mother church. The diocese is a suffragan within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

  • Diocese of Tyler to hold Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Masses

    The Diocese of Tyler will hold Holy Hours and Masses to remember those who have experienced the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, or early infant death. These services coincide with the annual day of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance on October 15. Scheduled services include a Spanish Mass at St. Edward’s Catholic Historic Church in Athens on Friday, October 16, at 6:00 p.m. At St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lufkin, a Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. on October 16, followed by a Holy Hour from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The diocese plans to add more Masses to the schedule throughout the coming month.
