History

A suffragan see of the Archdiocese of Puerto Montt in Chile, the Diocese of San Carlos de Ancud carries the Latin title Dioecesis Sancti Caroli Anduciae. In 2005, Bishop Juan María Florindo Agurto Muñoz took up its governance, succeeding the retired bishop emeritus Juan Luis Ysern de Arce.
