History

Erected in 1868, the Diocese of Green Bay (Latin: Diocesis Sinus Viridis) covers the northeast region of Wisconsin in the United States as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The Cathedral of Saint Francis Xavier in Green Bay serves as its mother church, and David Ricken is the bishop.

  Dorene Schuster has received the 2026 Faith That Works Award for integrating her religious life into her business, Greenleaf Landscaping & Gardens. Schuster and her husband, Ken, have owned the landscaping and garden company in Greenleaf since 1984. As a landscape designer, Schuster incorporates prayer into the daily operations of the business. Employees participate in morning prayer sessions to pray for one another and for customers. The company also invites staff to attend morning Mass on the first Friday of every month, followed by a breakfast. Schuster noted that while she was initially nervous to invite her employees to participate in these religious practices, the tradition has since become a significant part of the workplace culture.

  Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle declared Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen blessed during a Mass on September 24 at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis. Acting as the delegate for Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Tagle pronounced the Church's declaration on the life and witness of the 20th-century American theologian and evangelizer. The beatification followed a formal request from Bishop Louis Tylka of the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois. During the liturgy, a biography of Sheen was read, followed by the public proclamation of the Pope's decree. Organizers estimated that approximately 50,000 pilgrims attended the event, which the Diocese of Peoria selected in St. Louis to accommodate the large crowd. The beatification was moved forward by a declared miracle involving James Fulton Engstrom, who was revived from stillbirth in 2010 through the intercession of Sheen. During the ceremony, Engstrom presented a relic of Sheen consisting of his jawbone, chosen to represent his work as an orator and teacher. In his homily, Cardinal Tagle, who serves as pro-prefect for the Holy See's Dicastery for Evangelization, described Sheen as a missionary shepherd who achieved blessedness through unity with Christ. He noted that Pope Leo XIV described Sheen in an apostolic letter as a tireless preacher of the Gospel through modern communication.
