The cathedral
Cathedral of Saint Paul stands in Saint Paul, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.
Its co-cathedral is Basilica of Saint Mary.
On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.
History
In the state of Minnesota in the United States, the Catholic Church is served by the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis (Latin: Archidiœcesis Paulopolitana et Minneapolitana). Unusually, its archbishop presides over two principal churches: the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Saint Paul serves as the mother church, while the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis holds the rank of co-cathedral.

Heart of the Beast — PG-13 (A-lll)
The adventure drama Heart of the Beast, directed by David Ayer, follows a civilian and his German shepherd, Odin, as they struggle to survive in the Alaskan wilderness. The film stars Brad Pitt as James Belmont, a former Special Forces Command Sgt. Maj. who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Belmont suffers a heart attack while piloting a plane, causing the aircraft to crash. He and Odin must trek 50-plus miles through the landscape to reach a highway. The film depicts Odin as a survivor of a recent conflict, featuring physical injuries such as a prosthetic leg and titanium false teeth. Screenwriter Cameron Alexander wrote the script to highlight the bond between the man and his dog. Aside from a brief appearance by J.K. Simmons as a stranger, the production focuses almost entirely on the two protagonists.

Thorny pride
The Catholic Spirit reports that the second reading for this Sunday, Phil 2:1-11, contains a passage that many biblical scholars believe is an early Christian liturgical hymn. This hymn, which describes the humility and obedience of Jesus Christ, provides a glimpse into how the Church conducted liturgical worship during its first few decades. The author suggests using this scripture as a penance for those confessing the sin of pride. The report notes that pride can manifest in subtle ways and may distance a person from God more profoundly than sins of the flesh. While the Gospels show Jesus interacting comfortably with tax collectors and prostitutes, the author observes that the proud and self-righteous often worked to oppose him.

White House marks Archbishop Sheen beatification
President Donald Trump issued a message on Sept. 24 marking the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen in St. Louis. The president noted that Sheen is the first American-born bishop to be beatified by the Catholic Church. In the message, Trump and Melania Trump joined those celebrating the legacy of the priest, whom he described as a pioneer in using media to preach the Gospel. Trump stated that Sheen's television programs attracted an estimated 30 million weekly viewers and converted thousands of people, including politicians, celebrities, and communist leaders, to the Catholic faith. The president added that Sheen used his platform to strengthen the nation and that his legacy continues through his books, broadcast recordings, and the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Museum in Illinois.

On parenting in impossible times
The Catholic Spirit reported on the challenges of parenting during times of community threats, such as school emergencies. The commentary noted that when families face such crises, focus shifts from daily concerns like grades or homework to basic needs including safety, peace, protection, and health. The piece referenced Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical Magnifica Humanitas and intended to address the intersection of artificial intelligence and family life. However, the author stated that immediate concerns regarding physical safety and the protection of loved ones take precedence over discussions on technology.
