History
All of the department of Allier, in the region of Auvergne, forms the territory of the Diocese of Moulins (Latin: Dioecesis Molinensis; French: Diocèse de Moulins), a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in France. Its episcopal see is in the city of Moulins.

Pope Leo XIV to visit France from 25 to 28 September
Pope Leo XIV will visit France from September 25 to 28, 2026. The trip follows an invitation from Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, the archbishop of Marseille and president of the French Bishops' Conference, which was later supported by other bishops and the French president during a meeting in Rome in April 2026. The Pope is scheduled to conclude his journey on September 28 near the tomb of Robert Schuman. Organizers selected the late September dates to avoid proximity to French elections. This visit marks the first official apostolic visit to France by a pope since Benedict XVI visited Paris and Lourdes in 2008.
